SUBSOLAR DESIGNS
Alona is no longer sold on ThemeForest. Your licence still stands and this documentation stays up. If your Envato support period hasn't expired, open a ticket and we'll help as usual. Once it has expired we can't take new tickets for it, and there are no further theme updates coming.

Installation

Install the Alona theme and required plugins.

Before you start: install all required plugins before running the demo import, or the import will fail. If you hit timeouts or blank pages, your host may need to raise PHP limits (memory_limit=256M, max_execution_time=360, upload_max_filesize=60M) and check that firewall/mod_security isn't blocking cURL. See FAQ → Demo import fails.

Alona depends on several bundled plugins - Redux Framework, Alona Core, ACF Pro, ACF: Font Awesome, and Subsolar Alona Shortcodes. If any are inactive, theme options, portfolio filtering, or shortcodes will silently break. See FAQ → Required plugins.

Unzip the downloaded package. You can install the theme in one of the following ways:

  • FTP - copy the non-zipped folder in the /wp-content/themes/ directory in the Wordpress installation of your server.
  • Upload - Go to Appearance > Themes in the admin dashboard, click the Add New button, then Upload Theme and choose the zipped file with the theme.

If you get a style.css not found error, make sure you are uploading the correct file. It's important to know that the file you have to install is the one inside the downloaded package.

After that go to Appearance > Themes and click Activate on the theme. After activation a warning about the plugins that are required will be shown at the top:

Click on Begin Installing Plugins.

Check all of them, select Install from the dropdown menu and click Apply. A message that the plugins are installed successfully should be displayed. After that go to Plugins > Installed Plugins, select and activate them.
