SUBSOLAR DESIGNS

Content & Pages

Menus, products, events, contact and blog pages, and per-page options.

To customize the navigation menu go to Appearance > Menus and customize it as you'll normally do on a WordPress site. The main difference is that you have Two Menus you can create.

Menu

The Main Navigation Left is for the items on the left of the Theme's Logo. As for the Main Navigation Right it is for the other items on the right of the Logo.

Navigations

And don't forget to check the Theme Location at the bottom of the page to select where you want it to be displayed.

Menu

If you want to add additional pages to the menu like Products click on Screen Options in the upper right corner of the page and check the types that you want to appear as items for the menu navigation.

Screen Options

When you are done, click Save Menu.

Note: If WooCommerce is active and the Profile Menu Item is not hidden (in Theme Settings > WooCommerce), a Login/Register link is automatically added to the right navigation menu. Logged-in users will see their username with a dropdown for Profile and Log Out.

After you install and set up WooCommerce you will have the option to create Products for your shop. To create and sell books with the Theme, these Products are styled and configured to fulfill that purpose. These are the items that will appear in the Shop Page as well as the Books Panel, Featured Books and Recent Books widgets/shortcodes.

In the Admin Panel, go to Products > Add New. On the Right Side from the Product Category you can add Categories to the current product (book). Here you can also select the Product Image and Product Gallery.

Here is a description of all of the fields on the page:

  • Main Content - the text displayed in the description in the Single Product Page.

Main Content

  • Product Data - contains all of the additional WooCommerce fields. Here you can select the Product Type as well as insert the Price, Type of Product, Stock Status, Additional Attributes and more.

Product Data

  • "Read the Book" Text - customize the text shown on the "Read the Book" button for this specific product. Defaults to "Read the Book" if left empty.

  • Remove "Thumbnail 3D Effect" - disable the 3D book edge effect on the product image for this product.

  • Product Short Description Sidebar - this is the content, displayed in the right sidebar of the Single Product Page.

Description Sidebar

  • "Read The Book" Chapters - here you can insert the chapters, which can be read from the Read The Book button. Each chapter has a Title and a Chapter content field (rich text editor). The "Read the Book" button only appears when at least one chapter has content AND the Show "Read the Book" Button option is enabled in Theme Settings > WooCommerce.

Chapters

  • Product Short Description - the text displayed next to the Product Image in the Single Product Page. It is also displayed in the Books Panel widget/shortcode, when the Product is hovered.

Below is a visual guide on how all of the fields are displayed in the Single Product Page:

Creating a Variable Product

The above image shows one specific Product Type - Variable Product. Choosing this Type from the Product Data allows for selling a book in many Types. For example with a Paperback and an e-Book Edition. Here is a guide on how to do this:

  1. When adding a New Product, select its Type to Variable Product in the Product Data field. Variable Product Type

  2. Go to the Attributes Tab and click the Add button next to the Custom product attribute field. Then in the expanded field, you can write the Name of the Attribute and its Values. In our case, the Name is Book Type and the Values are Paperback | e-Book (the "|" letter is used to split the different values). Variable Attribute Don't forget to check the two boxes below - Visible on the product page and Used for variations. When you are done click Save attributes.

  3. Go to Variations Tab and click the Go button, next to the Add variation field. Add Variation

  4. After that you can select the Variation you want to add. Select Variation

  5. If the options for the variations don't show up you can click on the row or the Expand button. Expand Variation Options

  6. In the expanded options menu you can input the Price, Stock, Image and others for this Type. When adding the e-Book variable select the Downloadable and Virtual fields, below the Image. Then in Downloadable Files click the Add File button. There you can write the Name and the File URL. E-book Variation Options As for the Paperback variable, there are no specific options that need configuring.

You can also select the Manage Stock? button if you want a limited number of copies to sell for that type of product.

  1. When you are done adding and configuring the different options click the Save changes button.

After you Publish (or Update) the Product, its Single Product Page will have the option to choose between the two types of books - Paperback and e-Book:

Creating an Event

Note: The Events custom post type is provided by the Subsolar Designs Extras plugin. Make sure it is installed and activated.

In the Admin Panel, go to Events > Add New. On the Right Side from the Event Categories you can add Categories to the current event.

Below the Title you can write the Content of the Event Page, just like the Content in a Blog Post. After the Content are the additional fields for the Event Page:

  • Event Date - here you can pick the Date and Time of the Event.

  • Event End Date - the end date and time for multi-day events. Leave empty if it is a one day event.

  • Event Image - the header image when the Event Page is opened.

  • Event Location - the location of the event, which also appears in the header on the Event Page.

  • Event Location URL - add a link for the location.

  • Event Map Location - add a Google Map Location displayed on the Event Page.

  • Additional Information - add a list of elements with information in the Event Page. Single Event

The Events are displayed in a Page with the Events Template, with the Events or Upcoming Events Elementor widgets, with the [Odrin] Latest Events WordPress widget (in sidebars/footers), or with the legacy Unyson Events shortcode.

Events Page

Go to Pages > Add New, write the page title and select Events from the Template dropdown on the right.

There are numerous options for the Events Page. Here you can select the Header Style, Show Filter as well as the number of Events Per Page.

You can select between four types of headers - Title, Featured Event, Custom Header, or No Header.

Events Header

After you finish configuring the page click the Publish button.

Contact Page

The theme uses the Contact Form 7 plugin for the Contact Page Template. The plugin is one of the recommended plugins that was installed in the first step. You can read more about the plugin here.

The shortcode for the Contact Template can be found in the Contact Tab on the left on the Admin Panel, and then add new or use an already created form.

Contact

The style of the Contact Form in the demo is the default one from the plugin. The code is in the Form tab when you edit the Contact Form:

[submit "Send"]

When creating a new Page, select Contact from the Template dropdown on the right. In the fields below the Content of the page, you can add a Subtitle for the Page Title, the Contact Form 7 Shortcode, and toggle Show Map to display a Google Map. When the map is enabled, you can set the Location (a Google Map field), the Map Zoom, and a custom Marker image.

For the Main Content of the page, you can also use Elementor or the classic editor. Contact Content

Blog Page

Go to Pages > Add New, write the page title and select a Blog template from the Template dropdown on the right:

  • Blog - Standard blog layout with a sidebar on the right.
  • Blog - No Sidebar - Full-width blog layout without a sidebar.

For both templates you have the options to add Header Subtitle and to Show Search Field.

Then click the Publish button.

Make sure that the page is NOT selected in the Post Page menu in Settings > Reading in the WordPress Admin Dashboard. Click Save Changes.

When editing a Page in the WordPress admin (using the default page template), you'll see the following options below the title:
